How To Join

I WANT TO LEARN KENDO BUT HAVE NO PRIOR KENDO EXPERIENCE. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?

Beginners with no prior experience are encouraged to complete our 4 weeks beginners course which starts at the beginning of each UNSW Term before integrating into the main class. Skills and experience from another martial art do not automatically translate across to Kendo. Kendo is suitable for both men and women of all ages who practice, compete and learn together.

The next beginner’s course will commence on Wednesday 22 February 2023.

Sign up for the course by filling out this form. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

MY CHILD IS UNDER 16 YEARS OLD, CAN THEY JOIN THE CLUB? / DO YOU ACCEPT CHILDREN?

As we are a university club, the average age of our members is 21 years old. Children aged 12-17 are welcome to participate in the Beginners Course prior to joining the main class. Children aged under 16 must have a parent/guardian supervise attendance. Our club may not be suitable for children under 12 years old due to the late finishing time of our classes. Please send us a message via our online form here to discuss. If you are looking for dedicated Kendo classes for children, please visit the NSW Kendo Association for a directory of affiliated clubs.

DO YOU TEACH IAIDO?

Iaido is the art of drawing a katana sword from its sheath with a smooth cutting action, performing one or more cuts against one or more opponents before returning it to the scabbard (noto). Unfortunately, we do not offer Iaido training. If you are looking for Iaido classes, please visit the NSW Kendo Association for a directory of affiliated clubs.
